Civil Engineer – StarWings Trading & Contracting WLL
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer with practical experience in warehouse construction and industrial building projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising and coordinating civil construction activities, ensuring that all works are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, and applicable local regulations.
The role requires strong site-management skills and experience in foundations, concrete works, structural works, flooring, drainage, external works, and coordination with MEP and other project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Review project drawings, specifications, method statements, material submittals, and approved construction documents.
- Plan, supervise, and coordinate civil works for warehouses, industrial buildings, storage facilities, and related infrastructure.
- Manage site activities including excavation, earthworks, soil preparation, backfilling, compaction, foundations, concrete works, blockwork, plastering, waterproofing, and finishing works.
- Supervise construction of warehouse slabs, heavy-duty industrial flooring, loading bays, ramps, dock levellers, parking areas, and vehicle access roads.
- Coordinate the installation of structural steel, precast elements, mezzanine floors, cladding supports, and other warehouse-related structures.
- Ensure that construction activities are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, project specifications, and engineering standards.
- Coordinate with consultants, clients, subcontractors, suppliers, surveyors, MEP teams, and other stakeholders.
- Check setting-out, levels, dimensions, line, alignment, and elevations before and during construction.
- Monitor the quality of concrete, reinforcement, formwork, waterproofing, flooring, drainage, and other civil works.
- Inspect delivered materials and ensure that only approved materials are used at the project site.
- Prepare and submit inspection requests, material inspection requests, work completion records, and other quality documents.
- Coordinate testing, including soil compaction tests, concrete cube tests, water tests, and other required inspections.
- Monitor daily progress and prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
- Assist in preparing work programmes, resource plans, manpower requirements, and material schedules.
- Identify delays, technical issues, variations, and potential risks, and report them promptly to the Project Manager.
- Supervise subcontractors and ensure that their work meets the required quality, safety, and programme standards.
- Ensure proper coordination between civil works and warehouse systems such as racking, fire protection, electrical services, HVAC, plumbing, and drainage.
- Assist with quantity measurements, valuation of completed works, variation orders, and subcontractor payment evaluations.
- Review and maintain as-built drawings, inspection records, test reports, snag lists, and handover documentation.
- Conduct inspections, coordinate snagging activities, and support the successful completion and handover of the project.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, project requirements, health and safety procedures, and local authority regulations.
Warehouse Construction Experience
The candidate should have practical knowledge of the following:
- Warehouse foundations and reinforced-concrete structures.
- Large-area concrete slabs and industrial flooring.
- Heavy-duty floors designed for forklifts, storage racks, and high-load operations.
- Loading docks, ramps, truck yards, and service roads.
- Pre-engineered metal buildings and structural steel systems.
- Precast concrete components and steel-frame warehouses.
- Mezzanine floors, platforms, stairs, handrails, and access structures.
- Stormwater drainage, underground utilities, manholes, and external infrastructure.
- Waterproofing, expansion joints, joint sealants, and floor hardeners.
- Coordination of civil works with racking systems and warehouse equipment.
- Warehouse extensions, refurbishment, maintenance, and modification works.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university.
- Valid professional engineering registration or accreditation, where required.
- Minimum 5 years of civil engineering experience, preferably including 3 years in warehouse, industrial, logistics, or commercial construction projects.
- Experience in Qatar or the GCC region is preferred.
- Knowledge of local construction requirements, authority approvals, and relevant international standards.
- Valid driving licence is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, architectural, and infrastructure drawings.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project is an advantage.
- Familiarity with quantity take-off, construction planning, material control, and progress measurement.
- Understanding of concrete technology, reinforcement, formwork, structural steel, flooring, drainage, and waterproofing.
- Ability to prepare method statements, inspection requests, technical reports, and site documentation.
- Knowledge of quality-control systems and construction inspection procedures.
- Understanding of health, safety, and environmental requirements.
